James Maritato (born March 12, 1972 in Queens , New York City ), better known by his current ring name Nunzio , is an American wrestler. He became known through his activities in the ECW and the WWE .

Career

ECW and RoH

In 1991, after his debut as a wrestler, Maritato was active in wrestling leagues in Japan and in the Universal Wrestling Federation . In 1995 he was committed to Extreme Championship Wrestling and fought there under the name Damian Stone . He was later given the name Little Guido and became a member of the Stables Full Blooded Italians (FBI), which already included JT Smith , Tracy Smothers , and Tommy Rich . With Tracy Smothers he won the ECW Tag Team title in 1997 , which he repeated in August 2000 with Tony Mamaluke . They remained a team until the bankruptcy of ECW, but had to give up the title in December 2000. After that, Maritato was in various smaller leagues, in which he often worked with Mamaluke. They were briefly active with Ring of Honor before Maritato joined World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002 .

WWE

There Maritato was classified as a midcarder (German Kadermittelfeld ) and renamed Nunzio . He got the ( kayfabe ) cousin's gimmick from Jamie Noble . In December 2002 he had a feud against Bob Holly and then there was a new edition of the Full Blooded Italians , which consisted of Johnny Stamboli , Chuck Palumbo and himself. The team achieved only moderate success and after Palumbo had to switch to RAW and Stamboli was fired, Maritato went back to solo.

In 2005 he took part in the ECW One Night Stand , a tribute show for the former ECW . From August onwards, Maritato was mostly active in the B show Velocity . There he fought for a short time with Funaki in a team and was allowed to win the WWE Cruiserweight Championship . He was finally teamed up with Vito LoGrasso and subsequently had them feud with the Mexicools stable . At the No Mercy 2005 event , Maritato lost the cruiserweight title to Mexicool member Juventud . In November Maritato was able to secure the title again, but lost it again seven days later.

Later, Maritato and Vito became involved in a feud with Gregory Helms . In May 2006 the team of the two was disbanded. After the ECW was broadcast as a weekly show by WWE in June , Maritato was sent there. At ECW he was again active under the name Little Guido and there was another comeback of the FBI , this time Tony Mamaluke and Trinity were there next to him . After Mamaluke was released in January 2007, Maritato and Trinity competed alone. In April his name changed back to Nunzio and he was separated from Trinity.

He later took a break after only being employed as a jobber and returned in September. Afterwards he was only used as a jobber again. On August 8, 2008, he was released in the wake of a wave of layoffs by the WWE.

Independent and TNA

After his release, Maritato performed on various promotions. On November 15, 2008, he won the JAPW Tag Team Championship with Tracy Smothers . They lost the title on December 13, 2008. In addition to appearances for Ring of Honor and National Wrestling Alliance , he took part in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's ECW reunion show Hardcore Justice on August 6, 2010 and the three subsequent TV recordings by TNA iMPACT! part. He appeared together with Tommy Luke and Tracy Smothers again as FBI .

Return to WWE

26 December 2010 Maritato made his comeback to the WWE, this time as a referee at a house show of RAW due to a lack of ring judges. After further appearances, he was regularly seen in this role on TV from May 9, 2011. On September 29, 2011, he was released for reasons unknown.
