The high-altitude, East Timorese Suco Liurai is located in the west of the Maubisse administrative office ( municipality of Ainaro ). The peaks of the region reach heights of up to 2400  m , all three larger towns are over 2000  m .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Liurai had an area of ​​73.76 km². Now there are 12.44 km². In the east it borders on the Sucos Maubisse and Horai-Quic , in the south on the administrative office Hatu-Builico with its Sucos Mulo and Nuno-Mogue , in the west on the administrative office Letefoho ( municipality of Ermera ) with the Sucos Catrai Caraic and Ducurai and in the north to the administrative office of Aileu ( municipality of Aileu ) with the Sucos Fatubossa and the Liurai of the same name . There is a game reserve around the Saboria ( 2495  m ).

Three larger settlements are in the north of the Sucos Liurai. In the northwest Mau-Mude ( Maumude , Mamude ), in the northeast Erbean and on the northern border Bere-Tai ( Beretai , Bertai ), which extends into the neighboring Fatubossa. In Erbean, the largest settlement in Sucos, there is a primary school and a helipad for emergencies.

In Liurai there are the four Aldeias Bere-Tai , Erbean , Hoho-Naro and Mau-Mude .

Residents

744 people live in the Suco (2015), of which 399 are men and 345 women. The population density is 59.8 inhabitants / km². There are 134 households in the Suco. More than 95% of the population name Mambai as their mother tongue. The rest speak Tetum Prasa .

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections, Agustinho D. Sarmento was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections, António da Graça de Araújo won and was confirmed in office in 2016 .

economy

In 2011, the Suco received solar modules from the government for power supply.
