The Livemap Switzerland (formerly Swissarena ) is a detailed, walk-through aerial photograph ( orthophotography ) of Switzerland from 4,400 to 9,300 meters above sea level on a scale of 1:20,000 in the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne . It is the central part of the cable car and tourism department .

The aerial photograph is a world premiere, as it is the first time that it shows an entire country in a single photograph from a bird's eye view . It is around 200 m² in size and can be walked on with felt slippers. The distance from Basel to Chiasso is 12 meters and from Geneva to Schaffhausen 15 meters. The eye level of a medium-sized adult corresponds to a view from an altitude of about 34 kilometers. From a bridge hanging over the aerial view, the flight altitude is around 75 kilometers. With a magnifying glass you can see every single house and numerous details.

Emergence

The aerial photo originally consists of around 7,800 individual aerial photos, which were taken from an aircraft from an altitude of between 4,400 m and 9,300 m. The company Endoxon AG (now: Mappuls AG), which specializes in aerial mapping, then spent 16 man-years processing the image material in order to geometrically rectify the individual images, to georeference them and to adapt them to the national coordinate system of Switzerland. All clouds had to be removed and an even shadow had to be achieved. Then the many individual photos were put together to form the overall picture.

competition

There is a competition in which you have to correctly place 26 round plastic discs with sections from the aerial photo. With the punch pliers attached to it, the location can be entered on a separate map. If you have 10 correct answers you can take part in the competition, in which 10 silver museum coins are raffled off every month. The 26 discs represent the following locations: Oensingen , Basel , Birsfelden , Turgi , Rheinfall , Huttwilen , Greifensee ZH , Seedamm , Appenzell , Säntis , Walensee , Mythen , Piz Bernina , Arth SZ , Göschenen , Caslano , Buochs , Aletsch , Giswil , Napf , Thun , Geneva , Rolle VD , Freiburg im Üechtland , La Chaux-de-Fonds and Saint-Ursanne .
