The Lizumer Sonnenspitze is 2831  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Tux Alps in Tyrol .

Location and surroundings

The Lizumer Sonnenspitze is located in the center of the Tux Alps, about 20 kilometers southeast of Innsbruck within the Lizum Walchen military training area , about one kilometer north of the Lizumer Reckner , the highest mountain in the Tux Alps. To the north, the ridge continues to the Tarntal Heads and further on to the Mölser Berg . In the west, the summit structure of the Sonnenspitze is characterized by sloping meadow slopes above the Karseen of the Upper Tarntal and the Upper Knappenkuchl at the head of the Navistal . In the east the mountain has a more rocky character and drops steeply to the Wattentaler Lizum .

geology

The Sonnenspitze lies on the edge of the Tauern Window , a region of the Eastern Alps in which the Penninic nappes and possibly also the Helvetic nappes are exposed. In the geologically complex area, various rocks such as limestone marble and breccias , but mainly radiolarite, are involved in the structure of the mountain. In the summit area of the Sonnenspitze mountain tears can be observed which, according to geologists, represent a danger for the military camp and the Lizumer hut east below the summit.

Climbs

The Lizumer Sonnenspitze can be reached by hikers from three directions:

  • From the west from the Navistal over the Klammalm; from the Obere Knappenkuchl unmarked through the Lower and Upper Tarntal.
  • From the south from the Geier with only slight differences in altitude, marked by blocks, then path tracks.
  • From the north from the Tarntalscharte, marked path, steep ascent through extremely brittle slate, tricky on the descent.

The Tarntalscharte, for its part, can be reached from Navis via the Untere Tarntal or from the Wattentaler Lizum from the Lizumer Hütte ( 2019  m ).

The Sonnenspitze is of particular alpinistic importance as a ski tour destination (from the south, with an intermediate descent into the Upper Tarntal).

Due to the location within the military training area, climbing the mountain may be temporarily prohibited.
