Biographical background

Lizzie Borden was suspected of the murder of her father and stepmother

Born in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1860, Lizzie Borden was suspected of the murder of her father and stepmother in 1892 and subsequently acquitted. The circumstances of the trial and the verdict attracted a lot of media attention. The actual course of events has not yet been fully clarified. Her father Andrew Borden had married Abby Durfee Gray and had forbidden Lizzie from socializing. She was only allowed to get involved in church, which is why she developed a hatred of her father. In addition to many theories about who actually committed the murders and why, the incident gave rise to a haunting nursery rhyme: “Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks. When the job was finally done, she gave her father 41. "(" Lizzie Borden took an ax and hit her mother 40 times. When the job was finally done, she gave her father 41 [hits]. ")

reception

Reviews

Amy Nicholson of Variety says atmospheric visuals and a strong cast interpreted the notorious ax killer Lizzie Borden as the heroine who killed the patriarchy. Even if she was actually a sociopath, Nicholson continues, the film filled her life with a lot of emotion, even if the male journalists who covered Borden simply did not want to empathize.
