Lyubow Jurjewna Kasarnowskaja , also Lyuba Kasarnowskaja , Russian Любовь Юрьевна Казарновская (born May 18, 1956 in Moscow ) is a Russian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Kazarnovskaya made her debut in 1981 while still a student at the Moscow Conservatory as Tatiana in Eugene Onegin . From 1981 to 1989 Ljuba Kasarnowskaja was the leading soprano at the Bolshoy and Mariinsky Theater , where she laid the foundation for her extensive operatic repertoire (more than 40 stage roles, including Salome , Tosca , Manon , Manon Lescaut , Tatjana, Mimi in La Bohème , Lisa in Queen of Spades , Madama Butterfly , Leonora in Verdi's La forza del destino ).

In 1989 Ljuba Kasarnowskaja received the invitation from Herbert von Karajan , who died shortly afterwards, to the Salzburg Festival , where she made her international debut in August 1989 in the Verdi Requiem under Riccardo Muti . Kasarnowskaja has made guest appearances at La Scala in Milan , at the Metropolitan Opera , at the Vienna State Opera , at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden , at the Lyric Opera Chicago, as well as in Houston , Paris , Tokyo , Salzburg and San Francisco . In 1995 she made her debut as Salome at the International Richard Strauss Days in Oberammergau , a performance that was broadcast worldwide by 3sat .

Ljuba Kasarnowskaja has worked with important conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Georg Solti , Carlos Kleiber , Christian Thielemann , Bernard Haitink , James Levine , Riccardo Muti and Daniel Barenboim . She developed roles with well-known directors such as Atom Egoyan , Julie Taymor , Franco Zeffirelli , and Michael Hampe .

Lyuba Kasarnowskaja is also active as a song interpreter with a repertoire of several hundred titles by Russian, German and Italian composers.

The complete recording of all Tchaikovsky songs brought Lyuba Kazarnowskaya worldwide recognition. The singer's work is documented on image and sound carriers at DGG , Philips , Delos, Melodiya and VAI. In 2008/2009 complete recordings of the operas Eugene Onegin and The Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky were released as new releases .

Kasarnovskaya is also successful as a film actress, runs her own TV show The Romance of a Melody and gives master classes. She is currently (as of 2009) preparing new stage roles, especially Carmen and Medea , as well as some other international music projects. She is working on a new film project with the internationally recognized Russian film director Pavel Lungin , who won an award in Cannes .

The International Biographical Center , Cambridge, England has included Lyuba Kasarnowskaya among the ranks of the 2,000 most outstanding musical personalities of the 20th century and awarded it a diploma.
