The Logos Hope is a ship of the Christian aid and missionary organization Operation Mobilization (OM). She is the fourth ship in service by OM and is used as a floating conference and cultural center, as a book market and for the transport of relief supplies.

history

The ship was in 1973 as a car ferry Gustav Vasa on the Nobiskrug - shipyard in Rendsburg for the Swedish shipping company Lion Ferry AB for the Baltic Sea built. It was put into operation in the charter service for Svenska Rederi AB on the Malmö - Travemünde line . From 1976 to 1983 the Gustav Vasa was operated by the Swedish shipping company Saga Linjen and traveled the route together with the Nils Dacke . From 1980, after the merger with the German TT line , both ferries were part of the TT Saga Line fleet . Despite several changes of operator and owner, the ship kept the name and line until 1982.

The ship as Norröna in 1995

In April 1983 the Gustav Vasa was sold to the newly founded Faroese shipping company Smyril Line , which renamed the ship Norröna . The Norröna was the only ship operated by the shipping company between Tórshavn , Hanstholm , Bergen , Lerwick and Seyðisfjörður , making it the only ferry connection to Iceland . This route was initially only offered in the months from April to September, from the end of 1998 all year round. Parallel to the ferry service, a freight line was also set up and served with the Norröna . In 2003, Smyril Line put the much larger new ferry ship Norröna into operation. The old Norröna was renamed Norröna I , put in the roadstead as a reserve and advertised for sale. In an incident in January 2004, the new Norröna collided with the harbor wall in Tórshavn in stormy weather and was damaged. The Norröna I was reactivated again for the two-month repair period .

Use at OM

After several inspections, GBA Ships eV bought the ship in March 2004 for 3.6 million euros and renamed it Logos Hope . With the new acquisition, the smaller Logos II was to be replaced, which no longer met the requirements of OM. From June 2005 the Logos Hope was fundamentally converted from a ferry to a conference ship in the Brodotrogir shipyard in Trogir, Croatia . On November 8, 2007, the ship was relocated to Kiel for the interior work and in May 2008 it was brought to the dry dock in Landskrona in Sweden, where a new auxiliary machine was installed. From July 2008 she was in Køge in Denmark to prepare her for the requirements of the Passenger Ship Safety Certificate (PSSC). The certificate was issued on February 14, 2009 by an assessor from Lloyd's Register . Logos Hope left Køge on February 19 and started work the next day in Gothenburg , Sweden.

The Logos Hope initially sailed, like the Norröna , under the flag of the Faroe Islands. In February 2009 the Logos Hope was put into service at OM. Even before it went into service, its OM predecessor, the Logos II , was sold to Turkey for scrapping on September 29, 2008 . The Logos Hope takes over the tasks of the Logos II .

Since July 1, 2011 she has been sailing regularly under the flag of Malta .
