Freilassing locomotive world
Coordinates: 47 ° 50 ′ 16 ″ N , 12 ° 57 ′ 59 ″ E The Freilassing Locomotive World is a railway museum in Freilassingoperatedby the city of Freilassing and the German Museum . The museum is located on the site of the formerFreilassing depot of Deutsche Bahn AG and houses part of the Deutsche Museum's railway collection. The other part of this collection is located in the traffic center of the Deutsches Museum on Munich's Theresienhöhe.

In the period 1902 to 1905 which was on the railway line Munich - Salzburg located depot built. These include the roundhouse including hub own power station and other shops and facilities to entertain and maintenance of railway wagons , railcars and locomotives . The German Bahn AG used the site until 1994. With the closure and resolution of the training workshop in 1998, the era was Bahnbetriebswerk Freilassing finally over. The buildings were placed under monument protection in the same year . In 2003 the city of Freilassing acquired the site in cooperation with the Deutsches Museum . The renovation and construction work for the “Lokwelt Freilassing” museum began in autumn 2004. At almost the same time, the association “Friends of the Historic Locomotive Shed 1905 Freilassing eV” was founded, which actively supports the museum. The Freilassing Lokwelt was officially opened to visitors on September 2, 2006 .
The roof of the building was hit by hurricane Kyrill on 18./19. January 2007 so badly damaged that the Lokwelt had to be temporarily closed. The roof structure has meanwhile been supported so that stability is ensured again. The other damage has also been repaired to such an extent that the Lokwelt can now be visited again without restrictions.
Museum project
In seventeen of twenty track stands the roundhouse many are exhibits about "150 years of railway history" issued. This includes a large stock of the Deutsche Museum's railway collection , which, due to lack of space, could not be transferred to the Transport Center branch opened in 2006 . Bahn TV reported on the relocation of the exhibits under the title A museum is moving . There are also a few exhibits from the holdings of the Nuremberg Transport Museum . The remaining three track stands serve as workshops for the restoration , maintenance and care of historical locomotives and rolling stock. A model layout shows a replica of the Freilassing depot at the time it was used by Deutsche Bahn AG . For children aged 6 to 12 years, the Lokwelt Freilassing offers a playful exploration (so-called children's world) of the topics of railways and technology. Additional events and action days take place on certain days. The vehicle collection is continuously expanded.

Model railway
In the Lokwelt, the model construction department is building a model railway layout on a scale of 1:87 ( H0 ). The model railway system is being built on platform 3, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance.
Furthermore, since 2010 a second model railway layout in the LGB scale 1: 22.5 ( IIm ) has been built in the basement. Due to water damage from the floods in June 2013, the LGB system had to be temporarily moved from the basement to the normal museum area. The plant was put back into operation at the end of 2014.
Garden railway
A garden railway has been set up on the Lokwelt open-air site since 2009 . On certain days, the museum visitors can take a ride on this.

Others
In October 2006 the Nostalgie-Istanbul-Orient-Express (NIOE) was the first special train to “visit” the Lokwelt Freilassing , which opened in September . In the middle to the end of November 2006, the train stopped at the Augsburg railway park before starting a special trip from Augsburg to Salzburg . A tour of the train was possible there on two days.
