The steam locomotives of type B IX of the Royal Bavarian State Railways were the first double-coupled express locomotives in Bavaria . The rear coupling axle was located under the standing boiler so that the overhanging masses could be kept small. Therefore a maximum speed of 90 km / h could be allowed for the locomotive. The locomotive reached a speed of 70 km / h on the plain with a 150-ton train. The locomotives, otherwise kept in the style of their predecessors, had a deep boiler, outer frame and Stephenson control. The Reichsbahn downgraded the remaining 1,923 machines - despite their fuel and Kuppelraddurchmessers of 1870 mm - only as a passenger locomotive in the genus P23.12 and looked for them nor the operating numbers 34 7421 to 7440 before. The vehicles, which were built between 1874 and 1887, were taken out of service by 1925 before they were redesignated.

The locomotives were coupled with bay 3 T 10.5 tenders .

Preserved locomotive

A copy cut lengthwise has been preserved at the Deutsches Museum in Munich . Parts of the collection, including the B IX, have been moved to the Lokwelt Freilassing Museum in Freilassing due to a lack of space .
