From 1968 to 1980 Piani played small and small roles in nearly 130 films. As a graduate of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia , he was often employed in such tiny parts to meet legal requirements. Almost all of these appearances took place in commercially oriented genre works; a few times he also worked with filmmakers such as Federico Fellini , Marco Ferreri and Luchino Visconti, as well as the Taviani brothers . At the beginning of the 1970s, Piani was often seen in spaghetti westerns , then in burlesque erotic comedies in the decameron style, and finally in many Poliziottesci . Colleagues, in whose works he played several times, were Alberto Sordi and Ciccio Ingrassia . Since the mid-1970s at the latest, he has also been active in the theater, for example he staged I masnadieri in 1976 and was in the ensemble of the “Politeama Rossetti di Trieste” in 1982.

After 1980, with the exception of the years 1988/1989, its film output decreased significantly. He has not performed since 1999.
