Poliziottesco

Poliziottesco is a genre of films from Italy . The term is often used in the plural, Poliziotteschi . Often all Italian films with a police , mafia or gangster connection are described with this term. The classic Poliziottesco is a subspecies of the police film . Such films were made between 1968 and 1982. After that there were hardly any productions that can be counted as part of the genre. The film Das Syndikat by Stefano Vanzina is often mentioned as the first work . It deals with the problem of a police officer who single-handedly fights crime. Typical for the genre are the helplessness and disinterest of the state organs, which force the main heroes to act unauthorized until the transition to vigilante justice. The director Enzo G. Castellari was unable to convince with his technically demanding camera work in films such as Dead Witnesses Sing . Actors such as Maurizio Merli , Franco Nero , Tomás Milián or Fabio Testi became figureheads of the genre.
