Lotte Medelsky (born May 20, 1880 as Karoline Medelsky in Vienna , † December 4, 1960 in Nussdorf am Attersee , Upper Austria ; married Frank / Krauspe) was an Austrian actress .

Life

Her father Karl Medelsky (Vienna, September 6, 1851–?) Was the gas cashier of the ICGA. The mother Leopoldine, b. Egner (October 11, 1853–?) Was a seamstress . From 1894 she received training at the Vienna Conservatory of the Society of Friends of Music . On the recommendation of her teacher, the court actor Alexander Strakosch , she was engaged at the Burgtheater at the age of 17 , where she stayed until her retirement in 1946. She made her debut on November 23, 1896 in the comedy War in Peace , then played Hedwig Ekdal in Ibsen's Die Wildente . Other important roles were Gretchen in Faust (1897) and Christine in Liebelei (1898), which she played again and again in later years.

Her repertoire of over 200 roles included the maid Rosl in the world premiere of Anton Wildgans Dies Irae (1919), Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Amalie in The Robbers . She took on the title role of the Maid of Orleans and the role of Cordelia in King Lear . In plays by Ludwig Anzengruber she was seen as Horlacher-Lies in Der G'wissenswurm and Vroni in Der Meineidbauer . She frequently took part in performances of works by Gerhart Hauptmann and Arthur Schnitzler .

She gave numerous guest performances and was Marthe Schwerdtlein in the production of Faust at the Salzburg Festival from 1933 to 1947, as well as Jedermann's mother in Jedermann from 1947 and 1949 to 1952 and Hero's mother in Des Meeres und der Liebe Wellen by Franz Grillparzer in 1948 . Film appearances remained an exception.

Lotte Medelsky had been married to the actor Eugen Frank (actually Krauspe) since 1901 and lived alternately in the Villa Bergauer in Hietzing and in Nussdorf am Attersee. She had a sister, Hermione , who made her debut in the Volkstheater on August 29, 1901. Her children Liselotte (1907–1981) and Hans († 1946) also became actors. Her last role was the wooden woman in The Spatter .

Her honorary grave is in the Hietzinger Friedhof (group 34, number 24I).
