Herbert J. Wimmer

Herbert Josef Wimmer (born May 2, 1951 in Melk , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian writer .

life and work

Wimmer grew up in Pöchlarn , completed a commercial apprenticeship and has lived in Vienna since 1971 . He was initially an office worker and has been working as a freelancer since 1973.

From 1993 to 1997 he studied German philology , theater studies , journalism and communication studies as well as comparative social history of literature at the University of Vienna . In 1997 he graduated as Mag. Phil.

Wimmer writes poems, short prose, novels, radio plays and art radio productions (for ORF , SDR , SWR ) as well as articles critical of literature and films. Since 1989 he has been involved in various drawing and photo / text projects, which he exhibited in 1993, 2000 and 2013 in the Literaturhaus Vienna and in 1989 in the literary quarter Alte Schmiede (Vienna) . Wimmer's texts have been published in numerous anthologies (e.g. Versnetze 2013–2019) as well as literary journals such as Kolik , manuscripts , Matrix , Protocols , Waspennest and SALZ .

Since 2014 he has been developing his own poetic dance pieces in collaboration with Marion Steinfellner : TRANSPOETIKPERFORMANCES . Since 2015, the composer, orchestra director, musician and radio designer ( Orange 94.0 ) Michael Fischer from the Vienna Improvisers Orchestra has been making the music for these text and dance performances with his ad hoc soundscaping and feedback saxophone .
