Louis-Marie-Joseph-Eusèbe Caverot (born May 26, 1806 in Joinville , † January 23, 1887 in Lyon ) was a French cardinal of the Roman Church .

Little is known about Louis-Marie-Joseph-Eusèbe Caverot's childhood and youth. What is certain is that he graduated from the St. Sulpice seminary in Paris and was ordained a priest on March 19, 1831 .

He then worked as vicar in the Archdiocese of Besançon until 1834 and as a chaplain for another six years, until 1840 . From 1840 to 1845 he worked as canon at the Cathedral of Besançon before he worked as vicar general for another three years, until 1848 .

On April 20, 1849 Caverot was appointed bishop of the diocese of Saint-Dié ; The episcopal ordination took place on July 22, 1849 and was carried out by Jacques-Marie-Adrien-Césaire Mathieu , Archbishop of Besançon , co-consecrators were Bénigne du Trousset d'Héricourt , Bishop of Autun , and François-Victor Rivet , Bishop of Dijon . After 27 years at the helm of Saint-Dié, Caverot moved to the Archbishopric of Lyon as Archbishop on July 26, 1876 .

Pope Pius IX took Caverot in the Consistory of 12 March 1877 Cardinal Priest with the titular church of San Silvestro in Capite into the College of Cardinals on. Only a year later Caverot took part in the conclave of 1878 , in which Pope Leo XIII. was chosen. The last time Caverot changed his titular church on March 24, 1884, was Santa Trinità dei Monti .

Louis-Marie-Joseph-Eusèbe Caverot died three years later, at the age of 80. He is buried in Lyon Cathedral.
