Louis Abel-Truchet

Louis Abel-Truchet , actually Louis-Abel Truchet , (born December 29, 1857 in Versailles , Yvelines department , † September 9, 1918 in Auxerre , Yonne department ) was a French painter of the Belle Époque .

Life

Abel-Truchet was a student of Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre at the Académie Julian . The first exhibitions followed from 1891. He was one of the founding members of the Société du Salon d'Automne and was one of the first artists to be seen at their autumn exhibitions. In 1910 Abel-Truchet became a member of the Société nationale des beaux-arts .

Abel-Truchet was a compatriot and contemporary of painters such as Eugène Galien-Laloue , Jean-Louis Forain and Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen . His subjects included night views of Montmartre , street scenes from Venice , Padua, Marseille, Monte Carlo, Avignon and Tunis .

In 1907 Abel-Truchet u. a. together with his colleague Louis Vallet in Paris the Société des humoristes .

At the outbreak of World War I , he undertook voluntarily in 1914 as a lieutenant of a pioneer -Regimentes, the one he  régiment du Génie . In September 1918 he died as a result of a war wound.

The art market rates him low: in 2007, up to $ 24,000 was paid for one of his Parisian street scenes.
