Louis Bosset

Louis Bosset (born April 26, 1880 in Payerne ; † June 28, 1950 there , reformed , resident in Avenches ) was a Swiss archaeologist .

Life

Louis Bosset was born on April 26, 1880 in Payerne as the son of the liberal politician Fritz Bosset . Bosset first attended the humanistic grammar school in Payerne, then in 1897 he received training as an architect at the technical center in Biel . After completing internships in Zurich and Winterthur , Bosset completed his studies at the Polytechnic in Vienna on. He then completed other internships abroad, especially in Dresden .

From 1903 Bosset worked as an architect in Payerne. From 1910 he worked with the canton archaeologist Albert Naef on the research and restoration of the amphitheater , the wall ring and the east gate of Aventicum , where he later led the excavations of the theater and the temple of Le Cigognier.

From 1934 Bosset took up a position as a canton archaeologist. In this role he restored the parish church and the Abbey of Payerne and supervised the work on Chillon Castle and the cathedral in Lausanne .

In addition, Bosset served as Mayor of Payerne between 1929 and 1941 . He also chaired the Société vaudoise d'histoire et d'archéologie from 1936 to 1937, the Pro Aventico society from 1937 to 1950, and the Swiss Society for Prehistory from 1947 to 1949 .

He was married to Léonie, the daughter of the merchant Benjamin Perrin. Louis Bosset died in Payerne on June 28, 1950, just after he had turned 70. He was a cousin of Norbert Bosset .
