Louis Franklin Olinde (born March 19, 1998 in Hamburg ) is a German basketball player. He has been under contract with Bundesliga club Alba Berlin since summer 2020 . Olinde measures 2.05 m and is used both as a shooting guard and as a winger.

Career

Olinde began his career in the youth department of BC Hamburg . From 2011 he also played for Piraten Hamburg in the U16 Bundesliga JBBL , and from 2014 also for the Pirates in the U19 Bundesliga NBBL .

During the 2013/14 season he was used for the first time in the men's team of BC Hamburg in the 2nd regional league and from 2014 also belonged to the squad of SC Rist Wedel in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB , but did not yet make it to the third-highest German division Commitment.

In the 2015/16 season, Olinde was eligible to play for three teams due to cooperations: The Piraten Hamburg (NBBL), SC Rist Wedel (2nd Bundesliga ProB ) and the Hamburg Towers (2nd Bundesliga ProA). In the season in question, he made three short Pro-A appearances for the Towers, 21 Pro-B games for SC Rist and nine games in the NBBL for the Pirates.

In June 2016, Olinde took part in the Top 100 Camp, an NBA screening event, in the United States . In the same month he signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga club Brose Baskets Bamberg and received a double license for their junior team, second division club FC Baunach . On the first matchday of the 2016/17 season, Olinde made his Bundesliga debut for Bamberg in the game against Frankfurt.

In the 2017/18 game year, Olinde Baunach led with an average of 15.4 points per match and was also the seventh-best player in the entire 2nd Bundesliga ProA in this statistical category. In spring 2018, Olinde registered for the NBA's draft procedure , but withdrew this registration in June 2018. A year later he enrolled again in the selection process of the North American League, only to have his name again prematurely removed from the list. In summer 2020 he signed a three-year contract with Alba Berlin after increasing his statistical values ​​in the previous 2019/20 Bundesliga season to 23 minutes, 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per match.

National team

In August 2014, Olinde took part in the European Championship in Latvia with the German U16 national team and made nine appearances in the selection of the German Basketball Federation during the tournament .

In spring 2016 he won the Albert Schweitzer tournament with the U18 national team , which meant the host's first victory in the 28th edition of the event. At the U18 European Championship in December 2016, he posted an average of 5.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and finished fourth with the German team. In July 2017, Olinde took part in the U19 World Cup in Cairo and came fifth with the DBB selection. In seven tournament games he recorded an average of 9.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per match.

At the beginning of June 2018 he was appointed to the U20 national team and won bronze at the European Championships in Chemnitz the following month . Olinde scored an average of 7.3 points as well as seven rebounds and 1.9 assists per match over the course of the tournament. In 2019 he was appointed to the German A2 national team and in early February 2020 he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time. Olinde played his first international A match against France in Vechta in February 2020 .

Achievements and Awards

During the 2015/16 season, Olinde was appointed to the all-star team of the U19 Bundesliga NBBL. In 2017 he won the German Cup and the championship with Brose Bamberg.

Personal

His father Wilbert Olinde won the NCAA Division I basketball championship with the University of California (UCLA) in 1975 and was three times German champion and two DBB cup winners with SSC / ASC Göttingen between 1980 and 1985. Louis' mother Ursula played basketball in the second division.

Olinde is one of the main characters in the documentary Starting 5 , which hit theaters in spring 2017.
