Louise Scheppler founded a school for small children in Waldersbach on June 16, 1779 (toddler school - salles d'asile). In 1829 she received the "Virtue Prize" (fr. Prix de vertu ) of the Paris Academy of Sciences . With the 5,000 francs she received, she founded further schools for small children.

In an undated handwritten report, Louise Scheppler describes the school operations in her pioneering toddler school, which was a mixture between kindergarten and crèche , as follows:

"The leaders teach the children in the various subjects as follows:

  1. Knitting applies to both boys and girls.
  2. They are told the stories of the Scriptures.
  3. You let them learn by heart, hymn book songs and spiritual songs, which you will always sing at the same time, you explain the meaning of these songs to them.
  4. They are taught the basics of geography and natural history.
  5. They are told various edifying stories according to their age and comprehension.
  6. You try to make the presence of God clear to them, anytime, anywhere, anywhere, and in whatever they do, they are encouraged to remember it.

They are encouraged (encouraged) to do everything that God, the omnipresent, can give joy. In contrast, they are also shown what displeases God; one tries to show them how ugly it is to indulge in lying and swearing, as well as disrespect for parents, filthiness, laziness and other things. And finally one tries to teach them the prayer of the heart by praying with them on their knees and praying in a way that they understand. "
