Luca Antonio Virili (* 1569 in Rome ; † June 4, 1634 there ) was an Italian cardinal
biography
Virili comes from a noble family from Sabina and was born in Rome in 1569 to Lelio Virili, a Roman lawyer and Sigismonda Prati.
Studied at the University of Siena , where he received his doctorate in utroque iure in 1590 , both in canonical and civil law.
On his return to Rome he met the Roman Curia in the vicinity of the Dean of the Holy Roman Rota , Francesco Pegna. Pope Paul V appointed him civilian deputy to the auditor of the Apostolic Chamber , the future Cardinal Giandomenico Spinola . From Pope Gregory XV. he was appointed head of the papal household. He later became Chamberlain to Cardinal Antonio Barberini and Secretary of the Memorials. From August to September 1624 he was sent to the Duke of Urbino as Commissioner of the Holy See . On June 22, 1626 he was appointed judge of the Holy Roman Rota. He was also Vice Prefect of the Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature .
Pope Urban VIII elevated him to the rank of cardinal in the consistory on November 19, 1629 . On December 17, 1626 he received the red hat and the title of San Salvatore in Lauro .
He died on June 4, 1634 at the age of 65 in his Roman residence. His burial took place in the SS Trinità al Monte Pincio church in Rome.
