Luculai ( Lukulai ) is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Liquiçá ( Liquiçá municipality ).

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Luculai had an area of ​​4.51 km². Now it is 4.59 km². The Suco is to the east of the Liquiçá administrative office. To the west are the Sucos Dato and Darulete . In the east, Luculai borders on the administrative office of Bazartete with its Sucos Leorema and Metagou . The Caray river has its source in the north of Luculai and flows west into the Gaulara . It forms the border to Dato and flows together with the Eanaloa at the northern tip of Luculai and thus forms the Gularkoo . The Eanaloa forms the border with Metagou.

To the north of the Caray are the villages of Hunehei ( Hunanai , Hunahai ) and Lebuana , to the south the places Metagou ( Metagao ) and Natarae . In Metagou there is a medical station and a primary school, the Escola Primaria Luculai .

The four Aldeias Hunehei , Lebuana , Metagou and Natarae are located in the Suco .

Residents

793 inhabitants live in the Suco (2015), of which 428 are men and 365 women. The population density is 172.6 inhabitants / km². There are 134 households in the Suco. Over 79% of the population give Tokodede as their mother tongue. 16% speak Mambai and almost 4 % speak Tetum Prasa .

history

In April 1999, the residents of Luculai and other sucos were forcibly deported to Vila de Liquiçá . Here they were forced to use intimidation and abuse to support the autonomy solution in the independence referendum , which provided for East Timor to remain with Indonesia . If they did not flee, men were forcibly recruited into the militia . In addition, people had to raise the flag of Indonesia and set up guard posts. Girls and young women had to dance at militia celebrations.

300 families were left homeless when floods ravaged Luculai, Dato and Maumeta on January 1 and 2, 2008 . 100 houses were completely destroyed, 90 more damaged. The population was able to be evacuated by the national police in time, so that no people were harmed.

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Augusto Lopes da Silva elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Leonel da Silva Lopes .
