Ludger tom Ring the Elder (* 1496 in Münster ; † April 3, 1547 in Münster) was a painter and printer , and ancestor of the Münsterland artist family tom Ring .

Life

His training may have taken place in Holland . He worked as a painter and draftsman for woodcuts and created works of the Renaissance . Some of his works were at times ascribed to Holbein .

As a follower of Luther , he had to flee Münster from the Anabaptists in 1533 , but returned there later.

Marriage and offspring

Ludger tom Ring married Anna tom Ring (* 1495; † 1547) in 1519/20, who comes from the Rorup family. Together they had eight children, the most famous of whom are the three artists:

Ludger and his wife died of an epidemic in quick succession on Palm Sunday 1547.
