Ludo Claesen

Ludo Claesen (born March 22, 1956 in Genk ) is a Belgian composer , percussionist and conductor .

Life

Ludo Claesen studied at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven , at that time (after a higher Kirchenmusikschule Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens named) and then at the Flemish Conservatory Antwerp percussion , music theory , composition , and choral and orchestral conducting. As an interpreter he has appeared in many European countries, as well as in Israel and the USA. Numerous appearances were recorded by Belgian, Dutch and French radio and television stations.

As a guest conductor, Claesen led the Limburg Symphony Orchestra (LSO) Maastricht , the Philharmonic Orchestra of Dnepropetrovsk ( Ukraine ) and the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra Cologne . From 1992 he directed a monthly Bach cantata cycle with the Camera Musica Mosana in Maastricht, as well as Bach's St. John Passion . In 2000 he made a phonogram with this ensemble with works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Charles Villiers Stanford and Edward Elgar .

Ludo Claesen teaches polyphony and orchestral playing at the Lemmens Institute for Music in Leuven, choral conducting and choral singing at the Maastricht Conservatory . He currently directs the Hasselt Cathedral Choir, the Capella Concinite Leuven, the Maastricht Chamber Choir and, until the end of 2013, the Royal Vocal Ensemble Willy Mommer .

For some time he has been making a name for himself as a composer of vocal and chamber music. His Missa pro nativitate Europae for choir, orchestra and soloists was premiered in 1994 under his direction in Lanaken, six years later the mass was performed at the Festival of Flanders in Tongeren. His Psalmus 112 for brass instruments, choir and percussion was recorded by the Belgian radio (BRTN Radio 3). In 1998 he composed the Mijmeringen Suite for choir, woodwind quartet and piano. In 2010 a CD Claesen meets Claesen with sacred choral works from his pen was released.

In 1993 he won the SABAM - (Belgian Society for Music Authoring Rights) competition for choral composition in Brussels . He received further awards at competitions in Antwerp (1985/1986), Leeuwarden (1996), Verona (1997) and Rome (2006). In recognition of its cultural commitment, the government of the Belgian province of Limburg received the "Het Gulden Spoor 1995" award.
