Duke Ludwig Ferdinand Philipp of Parma (born August 5, 1773 in Piacenza , † May 27, 1803 in Florence ) was Ludwig I, the first king of the newly created Kingdom of Etruria .

Son of Duke Ferdinand of Parma (1751–1802) and his wife Archduchess Maria Amalia of Austria (1746–1804), daughter of the Austrian ruler Maria Theresa and Franz I Stephan of Lorraine .

On August 25, 1795, he married the only 13-year-old Infanta Maria Louisa Josefa Antonieta Vicentia (1782-1824), daughter of King Charles IV of Spain and his wife Princess Maria Luise of Bourbon-Parma , daughter of Duke Philip and his in Madrid Consort of Princess Louise Elisabeth of France . The marriage had two children:

⚭ 1820 Princess Maria Theresa of Sardinia-Piedmont (1803–1879)
⚭ 1825 Prince Maximilian of Saxony (1759–1838)
⚭ Count Ferdinand von Rossi († 1854)
⚭ Count Giovanni of Vimercati († 1861)

In 1801, Napoléon Bonaparte , then First Consul of the French Republic, had agreed with Spain and the House of Bourbon-Parma that the Duchy of Parma should fall to France after the death of his Duke Ferdinand , while the House of Bourbon-Parma with the newly created Kingdom of Etruria should be resigned. In order to make room for the Bourbons , the Habsburg Grand Duke of Tuscany, Ferdinand III. , compensated with the secularized prince archbishopric of Salzburg , whereupon the Parmesian Hereditary Prince Ludwig I was installed as “King of Etruria” in his office by Napoleon's grace.

Louis of Etruria was buried in Chapel 7 of the Pantheon of the Infants in the Monasterio de San Lorenzo de el Escorial .
