Alexander Ludwig von Wurmb

Alexander Ludwig von Wurmb (born May 15, 1686 in Hanover ; † May 18, 1749 ) was a Prussian colonel , chief of the hussar regiment No. 2 and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

origin

His parents were the Saxon-Gotha officer Johann Sigismund von Wurmb (born September 14, 1658, † March 12, 1705) on Krimderode and his second wife Anna Dorothea, née Spiegel zum Desenberg .

Military career

He first went into the Hessian service and came to Prussian in 1701. He was a big man with enormous strength and was not averse to alcohol. In 1735 he became lieutenant colonel and commander of the regiment, and in July 1740 he was promoted to colonel. On December 9th, he was sent to Silesia with a squadron of hussars - built under King Friedrich Wilhelm I in the Margraviate of Brandenburg. He had a known bad relationship with Zieten , with whom he had a fight on the eve of his wedding. In June 1741 he botched an order, the regiment was saved by Zieten. Wurmb received a pension of 1000 thalers from King Friedrich II and was transferred to the "Röder" garrison regiment as commander .

He married Maria Tugendreich von Auerswald on October 31, 1719 . The couple had several children including:
