Ludwig Mayer (painter)

Ludwig Mayer (born July 7, 1834 in Kaniów Stary , † February 16, 1917 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter.

Career

Mayer studied with Leopold Kupelwieser and Carl Rahl at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He completed his training in Venice , where in 1862 he painted the high altar paintings “Saint Martin” and “Christ with Lazarus” for the parish church of Aspern . From 1861 he was a member of the Künstlerhaus . Travels took him through Germany and Belgium as well as to Dresden and Paris . He lived in Rome for two years .

Mayer painted frescoes in the Brigittakirche . His main work in Vienna are the frescoes created in 1885 with depictions of Viennese and Austrian history in the municipal council meeting room of the New Town Hall .

Ludwig Mayer died in Vienna 4 , Prinz-Eugen-Straße 52 and was buried in the Perchtoldsdorf cemetery .
