The Luftwaffe Maintenance Regiment 2 (LwInsthRgt 2) was a logistics association of the German Air Force .

history

The Air Force Maintenance Regiment 2 goes back to the Air Force Supply Regiment 2, which was put into service on July 15, 1958 at Diepholz Air Base and was reclassified to Air Force Park Regiment 2 in 1959, to Air Force Supply Area 2 in 1968 and again to Air Force Supply Regiment 2 in 1973. The tasks of this association were the repair of material and equipment of the air force, such as aircraft and their components, ground service equipment, special vehicles or telecommunications equipment. He was also responsible for transport tasks and supplying the Air Force units with spare parts , ammunition , operating materials and consumables. In addition, air force units of the army and navy were supplied with material specific to the air force. To fulfill these tasks, shipyards were maintained as specialized repair facilities, material, ammunition and operating material depots as well as transport units.

On July 1, 2002, the Air Force Supply Regiment 2 was reclassified into Air Force Maintenance Regiment 2 and dissolved on December 31, 2012 in the course of a further reform initiated by Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and continued by Thomas de Maizière.

The Air Force Maintenance Regiment 2 was responsible for the maintenance and repair of F-4F Phantom combat aircraft , helicopters , the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system , radar , air traffic control , communications and ground navigation systems. Some of these tasks were also performed for the other branches of the armed forces . The regiment worked closely with industry, for example on helicopter repairs. The task forces at home and abroad were also supported by mobile teams.

The association was led by a commander with the rank of colonel . Most recently he was subordinate to:

  • Air Force Maintenance Group 21 to repair the F-4F Phantom ( Jever Air Base )
  • the Air Force Maintenance group 22 for the repair of radar and communication systems of the insert guide service of the Air Force and military air traffic control ( airbase Trollenhagen and Husum )
  • Air Force Maintenance Group 25 for the maintenance and repair of helicopters (Diepholz Air Base)
  • the anti-aircraft missile system center for the maintenance of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system and its components ( Wunstorf Air Base )
