The Air Force Maintenance Regiment 1 (LwInsthRgt 1) was a unit of the Bundeswehr ( Air Force ) set up on July 1, 2002 at the Erding Air Base and disbanded on December 31, 2012 . The range of services of the regiment was comparable to an economically oriented logistics company. His subordinate units were largely concentrated in southern Germany.

transformation

The Air Force Maintenance Regiment 1 emerged from the Air Force Supply Regiment 1 (LwVersRgt 1), which existed until June 30, 2002 and , like all other Air Force supply regiments in Erding, Landsberg am Lech , Neckarzimmern , Mechernich and Wunstorf , was dissolved.

At the same time the various Air Force supply regiments were subordinated to Air Force shipyards in Air Force maintenance groups renamed and the two newly established Air Force maintenance regiments assumed in Erding and Diepholz.

With the establishment of the Air Force Maintenance Regiment 1 on July 1, 2002, the Air Force Shipyards 11 (Neckarzimmern), 12 ( Ummendorf ), 13 (Landsberg), 14 (Erding) and 15 (Erding) were subordinated to the regiment. This also included two separate units in Manching and Penzing . With the stationing decision by the then Federal Defense Minister Peter Struck in 2004 and the associated establishment of a new air force structure, adjustments also had to be made in the area of logistics to the changed repair needs of the air force. Initially, a detailed decision on logistics was postponed. Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung made up for this in the spring of 2007 with the publication of the so-called detailed planning .

In the course of the implementation of this plan, on December 31, 2008, all of the air force yards subordinate to the Air Force Maintenance Regiment 1 were dissolved and their tasks were combined in two competence centers. These competence centers are the Avionics System Center, which was set up in the Welfen barracks in Landsberg am Lech on January 1, 2009 and was to be relocated to the regimental location in Erding after 2012, and the Air Vehicle Technology System Center , which was also opened in the Air Base on January 1, 2009 Erding was set up. The Aviation Technology System Center is also subordinate to separate areas in Ummendorf and Penzing, as well as cooperations between the Air Force and the armaments industry in Manching, Munich and Erding.

On October 26, 2011, Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière presented the new stationing concept as part of the Bundeswehr reform initiated by his predecessor Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg . This provides for the dissolution of Air Force Maintenance Regiment 1 as well as the Aircraft Technology System Center. The Avionics System Center will therefore remain at home in the Welfen Barracks at the Landsberg site and will be integrated into one of the two weapon system support centers to be formed, as will the separate area of the Aircraft Technology System Center in Ummendorf. As a result of the announcement by the Defense Minister, MTU backed the Erding site and would like to continue its cooperation with the Air Force on engine maintenance in Erding.

The dissolution of Air Force Maintenance Regiment 1 was carried out on a military roll call on December 12, 2012 with effect from the end of 2012.

assignment

With its subordinate units, the regiment covered the following fields of competence and technology:

The two system centers were the Bundeswehr's competence centers for the maintenance and preservation of the armed forces' knowledge and assessment capabilities for all airborne weapon systems and their complex assemblies such as jet engines , hydraulic systems and avionics systems .

The regiment's staff was responsible for monitoring, coordinating and supporting the subordinate units, as is the case with all Bundeswehr agencies. His tasks include personnel processing, organization, training and material management through to IT support.

The specialty of the staff of Air Force Maintenance Regiment 1 was the working group for technical investigations (AGTU). On behalf of the General Aviation Safety in the Federal Armed Forces and on behalf of the Air Force Weapons System Command, it carries out technical examinations on new parts and accident parts of Bundeswehr aircraft.
