Luigi De Donato
Luigi De Donato (born December 16, 1975 in Cosenza ) is an Italian opera singer ( bass ).
Life
De Donato made his debut as Colas in Mozart's Bastien and Bastienne in 1999 and had his breakthrough in 2004 when he was hired by the Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro as Don Profondo and by the Teatro La Fenice as Nourabad in Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles . Since then, the singer has performed in numerous opera houses, concert halls and open-air stages in Italy and France , but also several times in Spain , the Benelux countries, Austria and Switzerland , London and New York . De Donato sings mostly baroque works , Mozart and Rossini , but was also seen and heard as Pistola in Falstaff and as Ferrando in Trovatore and has appeared together with Ute Lemper in Bologna in Brecht / Weill's Seven Deadly Sins .
In his main subject Baroque, he sang numerous concerts , staged and concert performances with original sound ensembles, such as Il Giardino Armonico under Giovanni Antonini , Les Arts Florissants under William Christie , Il complesso barocco under Alan Curtis and the Ensemble Matheus under Jean-Christophe Spinosi . Luigi de Donato has appeared in all three surviving Monteverdi operas, sang in Fux ' Il Fonte della Salute , Landis Sant'Alessio , Lullys Psyché , Scarlatti's Il Giardino di Rose , and in numerous operas by Georg Friedrich Handel .
De Donato made guest appearances at the Styriarte and the Salzburg Whitsun Festival and worked with well-known directors . For example, he embodied Neptune in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria in productions by the Italian Pier Luigi Pizzi (at the Teatro Real in Madrid), the German Michael Hampe (at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent) and the American Robert Wilson (at the Scala in Milano).
In 2014 the bass performed successfully at the Theater an der Wien as Ercole in a concert performance of Handel's Admeto, re di Tessaglia .
In 2016 he appeared in L'incoronazione di Poppea at La Scala in Milan .
