Luke Witkowski (born April 14, 1990 in Holland , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team , the Syracuse Crunch , in the American Hockey League is used. He can be used as a defender and as a winger .
Career
Witkowski first spent his junior years in the 2007/08 season with the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets in the United States Hockey League . After the season he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the sixth round in 160th place by the Tampa Bay Lightning from the National Hockey League . He then moved to the 2008/09 season within the USHL to the Fargo Force. After a year there, the defense attorney enrolled at Western Michigan University and studied there for the next four years. At the same time, he played for the university's ice hockey team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With this he won the division championship at the end of the 2011/12 game year.
After the American had successfully completed his studies in spring 2013, he was signed by the Lightning in April 2013. For the rest of the current and the following season he was used exclusively in the farm team Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League . After an interim contract extension, he was part of their regular squad for the next three years up to the 2016/17 season . Witkowski received his first minutes of play during the 2014/15 season in the NHL with the Lightning and has since played repeatedly.
After four years in the organization of the Lightning, his contract was not extended after the 2016/17 season, so Witkowski joined the Detroit Red Wings as a free agent in July 2017 . The Red Wings subsequently turned him into a winger. After two years he also joined the Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent .
