Lunarsea is an Italian melodic death metal band from Rome that was formed in 2003.

history

The band was formed in 2003 from the break-up of the group Hollowearth by guitarist and keyboardist Fabiano Romagnoli and bassist and singer Cristian Antolini. In the same year, the first demo was released with Evolution Plan.txt , which was followed by a second under the name Bio Ashes Halo in 2004 . In 2006 the Greek label Burning Star Records released their debut album Hydrodynamic Wave . Up to this point the band had not held a concert. That only changed with a tour of Greece that followed after the album was released. The group could also be seen at the Metal Healing Festival in Xanthi . In 2007 she took part in the Gods of Metal Festival and in the same year released her first official music video, which was created for the song Beside the Driver . The following year, work began on the next album Route Code Selector , which was released in 2009 on Punishment 18 Records . A second music video was also released, this time for Metamorphine . Between 2009 and 2011, the band increased their live activity and played 80 gigs in countries such as Greece, Slovenia , Germany , the Czech Republic , Hungary and Italy. She played with Rage , Insomnium , Orphaned Land , Obscura , Darkane , Dark Tranquility , Nargaroth , Ektomorf , Sinister , Leaves' Eyes , Aborted , Dark Funeral , Asphyx , Primal Fear , The Haunted , Septic Flesh and Firewind, among others . Lunarsea won a competition hosted by Century Media , which allowed them to support Dark Tranquility and Insomnium on the Where Death Is Most Alive Tour in Bologna and Rome in October 2010 . In the same year, the first unofficial DVD was released , the content of which was recorded at the Nihil Extreme Festival in Milan in 2009 . In 2012, work began on the third album, while the contract with Punishment 18 Records was extended. As a result, the label won the rights to the first album, and it also released the first two albums again. The re-releases were distributed both in Europe and for the first time in America . In May 2013, the third album, Hundred Light Years , followed, which contains ten songs. Singer and violinist Tim Charles von Ne Obliviscaris , keyboardist Emanuele Casali and German pianist Martin Minor can be heard as guests. The album was produced by Tom Nitfield, who is also from Germany. The album, like the previous albums, was recorded at Outer Sound Studios with Giuseppe Orlando , after which it was mastered by Jens Brogen at Fascination Street in Sweden .

style

ein_Wigrid from schwermetall.ch assigned Hydrodynamic Wave to Melodic Death Metal. However, one could not compare the group with bands like In Flames , rather he felt more reminiscent of Children of Bodom , whose style he described as "extreme Power Metal ". Especially the “highly technical, feathered solos ” would make thoughts of this band arise. Lunarsea also occasionally used clear vocals, which he found too poppy , and said that fans of Soilwork would probably like this better. Reini from stormbringer.at also classified the music on Route Code Selector as Melodic Death Metal, which was mainly influenced by the Gothenburg school. The songs are characterized by kitsch and pathos . Musically, he especially noticed the clear vocals and the keyboard sounds.
