Luttrum is a village in the municipality of Holle in the Hildesheim district .

location

The municipality of Holle consists of the localities Derneburg , Grasdorf , Hackenstedt , Heersum , Henneckenrode , Holle , Luttrum, Sillium , Söder and Sottrum . The largest village is Holle before Sottrum, Grasdorf and Sillium.

Luttrum is located in the Harz foreland , on Kreisstraße 213, between the Hildesheimer Börde and the Wohldenberg. The proximity to the motorways 7 and 39 as well as the federal highways 6 and 444 ensure good transport connections. Bus connections or the Derneburg train station, five kilometers away, are available as public transport.

Luttrum is not only located on the eastern edge of the municipality of Holle, but is also on the very edge of the Hildesheim district, closer to Salzgitter than to the city of Hildesheim . Many of the residents of the agricultural village mainly pursue their purchases in the nearby industrial area in the Salzgitter area.

Very close to Luttrum is the up to three meters deep and nutrient-rich lowland moor, which was created in the Cretaceous after the silting up of glacial lakes that were formed by the Urnette glacial valley. In the 1950s, the baths in Bad Salzdetfurth used the valuable moor for spa treatments. Just above the moor is the old Aizen, who belongs to a local family, they use him as a trout farm and protect him from environmental pollution. It consists of two small and one larger pond.

coat of arms

The lantern on the Luttrum coat of arms tells of an event that happened in 1670. After three days of heavy hailstorm over Luttrum, on the third day, which is said to have been dark as night, a messenger was sent to Grasdorf to fetch the pastor there. The messenger took a lantern with him on this way, and the most beautiful sunshine awaited him already at the field mark border. The messenger's lantern is still kept in the Luttrum chapel today.

history

Towards the end of the 12th century, the Moritzstift and Kreuzstift in Hildesheim bought goods in Luttrum from the von Holle family. In the years that followed, the von Holle family repeatedly asserted claims to this property, which the Kreuzstift compensated for. The tithe of the village was donated in 1341 and 1345 by the Provost Otto for an annual commemoration to be celebrated on September 26th for all knights and squires who fell in the service of the Blessed Virgin.

In 1886 the Braunschweig / Nord railway line to Derneburg went into operation, and Luttrum received a stopping station from the Braunschweigische Landeseisenbahn. The railway connection was maintained until the early 1980s, after which the line was shut down and dismantled. Today there are plans to run a bike path alongside the road on this route.

After the first school building in 1670, the community built a new teachers and artists' house around 1850, which in 1905 was given a school extension to the east. In 1958/59 a modern elementary school with a teaching staff apartment was built on the Klevergarten on the upper edge of the village. Ten years later, the community built a sports hall with a lot of its own contribution, which the sports club TTV Luttrum uses. The table tennis club of Luttrum, founded in 1958, made the place famous beyond the district boundaries through successful point games.

In the years 1948/49 the first new housing estate, later the further expansion, was built. The townscape has been greatly improved by including Luttrum in the village renewal program of the state of Lower Saxony. As part of this measure alone, DM 1 million in public funds and DM 400,000 in private investments flowed into village renewal.

On March 1, 1974, Luttrum was incorporated into the municipality of Holle.

In 2005/06 another new building area was built on the western edge of the village, towards Grasdorf. However, since the company filed for bankruptcy, the construction project came to a standstill and is currently not completed.

Worth seeing

Anne's Church in Luttrum

The old chapel in Luttrum from the 12th century was replaced in 1692 by a new building in half-timbered style, the Evangelical Church of St. Anne. Outwardly, it adapts entirely to the surrounding courtyards. The old pulpit and the altar from 1604 still stand in the church. In 1716 the church was renovated and the interior was painted in Baroque style by the Hildesheim sculptor Johannes Süssemann . During the major renovation in 1973, the painter Bitsch from Bad Salzdetfurth let the old splendor come back to life. The artist Georg Baselitz , who formerly lived in Derneburg and whose works are represented in all major museums around the world, tried a new synthesis of art and church in the Annenkirche. His modern work of Christ crucified, however, met with a divided echo in the population.
