Lycium brevipes is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium brevipes is a 1 to 3 m high, dense and tangled branched shrub . Its leaves are succulent , hairless and 3 to 30 mm long and 2 to 8 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and four or five-fold. The calyx is bell-shaped and hairless to densely hairy. The length of the calyx tube is 1 to 3 mm, that of the calyx lobes 1 to 6 mm. The crown is bell-shaped to tubular, colored pink or purple, in the crown throat the veins are darkly colored. The length of the corolla tube is 4 to 10 mm, the length of the corolla lobes can be only 1/3 of the length of the corolla tube or it can be almost as long. The stamens are almost hairless at the base of the free-standing area, but in a 1 to 2 mm area directly above they are densely tomentose.

The fruit is an egg-shaped berry that is 4 to 6 mm thick and contains a variety of seeds .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species is distributed in North America and occurs there in the Mexican states of Baja California , Baja California Sur , Sinaloa and Sonora as well as in the US states of Arizona and California .

Systematics

Molecular biological studies place the species together with Lycium carolinianum , Lycium tenuispinosum and Lycium rachidocladum in a clearly supported clade , which in turn is placed in a larger clade made up of purely American species.
