Lyriel is a folk metal band that was founded in Gummersbach in autumn 2003 .

history

The line-up remained unchanged from the signing of the contract until 2008. Lyriel were already in the opening act for Elis , Visions of Atlantis , Regicide , Xandria , Schandmaul , Corvus Corax , Saltatio Mortis , Oomph! , Schelmish , Korpiklaani and Manfred Mann's Earth Band .

In 2005 the band toured Germany, Austria and Belgium with Elis and Visions of Atlantis. In February 2006 Lyriel played on the "Romantic Darkness Tour" with Regicide and Xandria. Lyriel also played at the Celtic Rock Open Air on July 15, 2005 at Burg Greifenstein . A video was made of this performance.

In September 2008 the previous drummer left the band for personal reasons and was replaced by Marcus "Fidi" Fidorra. Fidorra supported the band already in 2005 during the tour with the band Elis.

Albums

The first album Prisonworld came out on January 17, 2005. Particularly on this album is the song Lind e-huil which is sung in Sindarin , the language of the elves in The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien . The Sonic Seducer compared the style of the album to Blackmore's Night .

On December 15, 2005 the DVD Live was released at Burg Greifenstein , which contains recordings of the 3rd Celtic Rock Open Air at Burg Greifenstein near Herborn.

The second studio album, Autumntales , hit stores on September 29, 2006. It contains 14 tracks that continue the familiar style, including a cover version of Hijo de la luna . The track My Favorite Dream , recorded together with Sabine Dünser from Elis , was praised by the music press as one of the heavier songs on this album.

The third album Paranoid Circus was presented to the public on November 22nd, 2009 with a release party concert at the MTC in Cologne. A limited edition with two bonus tracks could be acquired. The voice actor Simon Jäger , best known as the German festive voice of Josh Hartnett and Heath Ledger and as an interpreter of audio books , speaks the introduction and, as an intermediate passage in the middle of the album, an excerpt from the short story Der Wolf by Hermann Hesse . While German and Austrian critics agreed that the album is of high musical quality, the lack of dynamism and originality were criticized.

The Schandmaul singer Thomas Lindner is a guest singer on the album Leverage .

style

The septet describes its music as "Dark Romantic Celtic Rock". Lyriel play ballads in medieval style, up to hard rock pieces with classical and folk elements. In so doing, they move in a triangle between classic folk music, Nightwish and Blackmore's Night .
