content

Maciste is a gladiator in the service of the Roman emperor and is superior to all in strength. The beautiful Roman woman Olympia wants to seduce him, which makes her admirer, Zefatius, mad. Maciste, however, is on their side and helps them in their ultimately successful fight for freedom, including a fight in the arena against a giant ape.

criticism

The critics agreed in their opinion:

"Usual fantasy history picture that comes up with strange ideas about early Christianity." ( Lexicon of international film ); “Well-known from the Roman arena.” (Cinema.de); “A pure succession of countless clichés, childishments and improbabilities” (Segnalazione Cinematografiche).

The evangelical film observer doesn't think much of the flick either , but judges on the whole a bit milder: "This [...] film [...] is one of the more sympathetic films of the never-ending Maciste - despite the scheme F and primitiveness of the craftsmanship. Series. "
