The Mackenröder peak is about 427.5 m above sea level. NN the highest mountain in the Göttingen Forest , on the border between the city and district of Göttingen , in southern Lower Saxony ( Germany ).
geography
The heavily forested mountain is located on the eastern edge ( stratification ) of the Göttingen Forest, a southern part of the Leinebergland , about 8 km east of Göttingen city center and just under 1 km northwest of Mackenrode , a south-western part of the Landolfshausen community . From Göttingen ( Herberhausen , Roringen , Oststadt or Geismar districts ), the Mackenröder peak can be hiked in a leisurely ascent. Coming from Mackenrode or Waake , the mountain can be reached via a short steep ascent.
Harzblick observation tower
The Harzblick observation tower is located a good 600 m north of the Mackenröder Spitze or about 1.6 km northwest of Mackenrode at a height of around 425 m . The tower and the forest restaurant used to stand directly at the Mackenröder top, but because of the construction of a military base it had to be moved to its current location in the 1970s.
From its viewing platform you can see good distant views: You can look to the northeast to the Harz , in which the Brocken can be seen, to the east to the Untereichsfeld with the Seeburger See , to the southeast to the Ohm Mountains , to the south past the same to the Hohe Meißner , to the southwest to the Kaufunger Wald , to the west-southwest to the Gauss tower on the Hohen Hagen in the Dransfeld forest and to the northwest to the Solling .
