Madrid is a municipality in the province of Surigao del Sur on the northeast coast of the island of Mindanao. It has about 16,000 inhabitants. Madrid is located on the coast of the Philippine Sea and is the central part of a relatively closed region known as CarCanMadCarLan ( Carrascal , Cantilan , Madrid, Carmen , Lanuza ). Madrid is around 45 km north of Tandag City and can be reached from there via the Tandag - Surigao City coastal road. The neighboring communities are Cantilan in the NNW and Carmen (Surigao del Sur) in the SSE.

tourism

In Barangay San Roque, at 9 ° 13'N and 125 ° 57'East, the "Sua cool spring" is located, which has been developed as a (jungle) outdoor pool with 3 pools. Since the outdoor pool is only about 500 m as the crow flies south of the "Esperanza integrated school", locals often just call this place "Esperanza". This can lead to misunderstandings, since Barangay Esperanza, directly to the east, already belongs to the municipality of Carmen (Surigao del Sur) . The spring bubbles - almost like a fountain - directly into the upper swimming pool. Covered seating with tables is available, and there is even a tiled water slide. The way from the settlement center to this open-air swimming pool leads, however, what feels like 2 km over a gravel road, which can only be tackled with trucks or motorcycle taxis. Tricycles don't stand a chance. The admission price is customary for the location, drinks and snacks are offered.
