Kaito Kid ( Japanese ま じ っ く 快 斗 majikku Kaitō , German 'magical Kaitō' ) is a manga by the Japanese draftsman Gōshō Aoyama , which is known internationally under the title Magic Kaito, which has been continued at irregular intervals since 1987 . The series was inspired by Maurice Leblanc's Arsène Lupine .

action

The number “1412” can also be read as “KID”

The manga tells the story of 17-year-old Kaito Kuroba ( 黒 羽 快 斗 , Kuroba Kaitō ), son of the famous Japanese magician Toichi Kuroba. Some time after Kaito's father dies, he finds a secret chamber and discovers its secret: He was the famous master thief in 1412, also known as the Kaito Kid ( 怪 盗 キ ッ ド , Kaitō Kiddo , eng. "Mysterious Thief Kid") and known worldwide by the Police were wanted.

He finds out that, contrary to his assumption, his father did not die in an accident on the stage, but was murdered by a secret organization. In order to find the murderers, he himself takes on the role of the master thief 1412 and keeps the police busy again with his raids. When he gets closer to his father's murderers, because they think he is the real Kaito Kid, Kaito learns about the machinations of the secret organization. You are looking for the Pandora jewel , which is supposed to be hidden in another valuable jewel, because if you hold it against the moon, it glows red and gives off a tear. Whoever drinks this tear becomes immortal. Since then, Kaito has been open against the police and the organization. While he's not exactly the Kaito Kid, he goes to school and meets, among others, Aoko Nakamori (Japanese 中 森 青 子, Nakamori Aoko ), who is his childhood friend and in love with him, which she does not want to admit. Aoko's father Ginzo Nakamori (Japanese 中 森 銀 三, Nakamori Ginzō ) is also the commissioner of the Tokyo police who are investigating Kaito. Kaito is therefore under constant pressure to keep his secret identity.

Characters

Kaitō Kuroba
Kaitō is 17 years old and 1.74 meters tall. He is and was a bright boy who constantly argues with his childhood friend Aoko and often pulls her into a magic trick. His great passion is magic, just like his late father. He can disguise his voice without technical assistance and imitate other people perfectly. Kaito is terrified of fish and cannot ice skate. Later he discovers the secret of his father that was hidden behind his picture and slips into the role of the master thief 1412. As the Kaito Kid, he prefers to dress up as a woman.
Aoko Nakamori
A bossy girl who is bursting with temperament and Kaito, when he annoys her, constantly rushes through the area. Little did she know that her old childhood friend Kaito Kuroba is the 1412 master thief. Her father is a police officer and heads the "Kaito Kid" case. Aoko doesn't like the Kaito Kid any more than her father does, and tries to stop her classmates from cheering Kaito Kid.
Inspector Ginzo Nakamori
Ginzo Nakamori is a police inspector in Tokyo and Aoko's father. His biggest enemy is the Kaito Kid, whom he hunts with all his physical strength. Despite his best efforts, he hasn't been able to get in the way of the Kaito Kid yet. He also doesn't know that Kaito Kuroba is disguised as a master thief, so that he sometimes even gets tips from him on how to catch the criminal.
Konosuke Jii
Kōnosuke Jii is the only one who knows of Kaito's identity. As a former assistant to Kaito's father, he stands faithfully behind his son and supports Kaito in his raids.

Relation to Detective Conan

Shinichi Kudō, the main character of Detective Conan , another work by Gōshō Aoyama, also appears as a unique supporting character in Kaito Kid . Further contacts take place regularly in the Detective Conan series and later in the Detective Conan Short Stories . In 1999, Kaito Kid premiered in Detective Conan's third movie , The Magician of the Last Century , where she starred alongside Conan Edogawa. Kaito Kid also plays a leading role in six other films in the series.

Publications

Five volumes of the manga have been published in Japan. The German translation of the manga appeared in the manga magazine Manga Twister , before the chapters were later published in Germany as volumes by Egmont Manga . So far, five volumes are available in German.

Between August and December 2011, the four volumes available at that time appeared in Japan as a new edition in the so-called Treasured Edition ; The fifth volume followed in July 2017. Egmont Manga brought this version of the first four volumes to Germany between October 2012 and February 2013. Since March 2014, all four volumes have also been available as e-books. April 2018, the fifth volume appeared exclusively in the Treasured Edition in German.

Anime adaptations

TMS Entertainment produced an anime adaptation of the manga entitled Magic Kaitō in 2010, which aired on April 17, 2010 as a television special by Animax . Until December 2012, a total of twelve episodes of the series were produced at irregular intervals and shown on the slot of Detective Conan when the series paused. The anime is an adaptation of the original manga, but it is not in the original order. This first adaptation was published between January and June 2016 under the title Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief in German-speaking countries on Kazé Anime in a total of four volumes on DVD and Blu-ray Disc . In addition, all twelve episodes are also available on Anime on Demand .

From October 2014 to March 2015, a second series on Kaito Kid ran in Japan, entitled Magic Kaito 1412 . It is set up for 24 episodes and runs weekly on the slot in front of Detective Conan on Japanese television. The anime starts all over again, so that the manga chapters that found their way into the first anime series are also implemented. Similar to the first series, the order of the episodes in Magic Kaito 1412 is not identical to the order of the chapters of the manga. In addition, some cases from Detective Conan are reissued and told from Kaito Kids' point of view. On July 30, 2016, the publisher Peppermint Anime announced at AnimagiC that the series would appear on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2017 and that it would be available on their video-on-demand platform Akiba Pass from autumn. In December, it was announced that Akiba Pass episodes would be postponed to 2017. The series was broadcast on ProSieben Maxx from March 14, 2019 to April 16, 2019 .
