Magnus Carl Ferdinand Bogislaus von Schwerin

Magnus Carl Ferdinand Bogislaus von Schwerin (born October 10, 1746 in Berlin , † August 1, 1810 in Frankenstein ) was a Prussian colonel and most recently in command of the Silberberg Fortress .

Life

origin

He came from the Pomeranian aristocratic Schwerin family . His parents were the Prussian major general Carl Magnus von Schwerin (1715–1775) and his wife Friederike Charlotte, née von Falcke (1715–1762).

Military career

Schwerin went into Prussian service in 1762 and joined the “von Grabow” fusilier regiment in Burg . His father was the regiment commander at the time. In December 1772 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and as such took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . In August he fought under the command of Count Hordt in Gabel .

In 1789 Schwerin became the captain of a grenadier company and was garrisoned with the regiment in Glatz . During the First Coalition War he fought in the cannonade of Valmy and later in the battles on the Rhine . At that time he was promoted to major on October 30, 1792 . In 1799 Schwerin rose to the command of the Fusilier Regiment "Gravert", the chief of which was General von Gravert . On June 9, 1800 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , on May 31, 1803 to colonel and in 1806 he was appointed commander of the Silberberg fortress. In the Fourth Coalition War , Bavarian Rhine Confederation troops of IX appeared on June 26, 1807 . French corps under Jerome Bonaparte before Silberberg . Schwerin refused the request to surrender, but was ready to negotiate an armistice . During the negotiations on June 30th, the enemy troops occupied the city, looted and burned the town houses. There was no handover of the fortress until the Peace of Tilsit on July 9th. Therefore Silberberg remained in Prussian hands in the following peace period.

Schwerin received his 1809 farewell with pension and died on August 1, 1810 in Frankenstein .
