He also did not make a breakthrough in the following Four Hills Tournament in 1987/88 . After a two-year international break, Westman started in Harrachov , but again clearly missed the points. In Liberec and Zakopane , too , he clearly lagged behind the world's best. In March 1990 he succeeded in his hometown Örnsköldsvik for the first time a significant improvement, even if he did not win any points as 32nd again.

At the beginning of the 1990/91 season Westman was able to increase his performance. After ranking 58th in the overall ranking of the Four Hills Tournament 1990/91 , he missed the points in the other World Cups. In March 1991 he failed in Lahti as 16th only by one place in the points. By the end of the season he was able to place in the top 30 in all competitions. In ski flying in Planica he reached places 20 and 22. After he did not get any points in the 1991/92 season in the World Cup, he started at the same time in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup , where he won a total of 32 points in the season and was 22nd Overall ranking.

At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , he reached 28th place from the normal hill, tied with Jirō Kamiharako and Ted Langlois . On the large hill, he finished 44th. Together with Mikael Martinsson , Jan Boklöv and Staffan Tällberg , he finished ninth in the team competition.

In the World Cup, too, he was able to achieve a good seventh place from the large hill in Planica at the end of the season. However, he could not continue to prevail in the individual World Cup. Also in the 1992/93 he remained behind the points. In the Continental Cup, on the other hand, he scored points and thus ranked 91st overall.

Despite the fact that he did not start in the World Cup for the 1993/94 season and did not jump into the points in the Continental Cup, he started at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . However, he only started from the normal hill and only reached rank 53. After the games, he ended his active ski jumping career.
