The series continued in the second season with 10 episodes from January 2014.

life and work

Maike Maja Nowak began her career as a songwriter in the GDR . She made her first appearances in the 1980s: She was part of the Leipzig song scene and founded the band Kieselsteine, one of the country's first women's bands , which was later banned because, in addition to many system-critical songs, they had also taken on the subject of lesbian love . With Norbert Bischoff she performed the program No Mai (s) dear April . Nowak was also active at the 1987 Festival of Political Song , in the same year she received the prize of the General Directorate at the Committee for Entertainment Art at the 9th Days of Chanson in Frankfurt an der Oder . In 1988 she performed at the Festival of the Song in the Palace of the Republic with, among others, L'art de passage , Pension Volkmann and León Gieco . In this context, the Berliner Zeitung judged Maike Maja Nowak that she does not make it easy for her audience with short sequences of thoughts and many metaphors, but has proven that her songs are important to a large audience. In 1989 she appeared again at the Festival of Political Song in Berlin, together with Lindsay Cooper and Billy Bragg .

Maike Maja Nowak lived in Berlin from 1986, after the fall of the Berlin Wall she emigrated to Russia, where she lived with a wild pack of dogs, about which she wrote the book "Vanya and the Wild Dogs". She commuted between the capital Moscow and the village of Lipovka . Musically she dealt with the poetry of Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva and set her lyrics to music in her own songs in German and Russian . She reached a wide audience with her songs and was awarded the Moscow Composer Prize in 1995. Russian newspapers called her the "Diva des Chansons". At the end of the 1990s, Nowak finally returned to Berlin to work again as a singer under the pseudonym Adriana Lubowa . Her chanson program “ Lieder Kurz nach der Glück” from 1997 was followed by a tour through Germany that lasted three years. In 1999 the second and so far last production Razzia im Paradies was performed. Due to a burnout , Nowak ended her time as a songwriter with this program.

According to her own statement, Maike Maja Nowak underwent therapy , stopped the intensive consumption of cigarettes and took on some odd jobs . In July 2002, she adopted a border collie mix that had been locked up on a balcony for years. After training in animal psychology , which she completed in 2005, she founded a dog school in Berlin under the name Dog-Institut in 2007 , in which , according to an article in the Berliner Kurier , over 6,000 dogs had been trained by April 2013. Essential characteristics of their work were the renouncement of rewards in the form of treats and the whistle . Furthermore, she primarily coaches “masters and mistresses”, since dogs are not difficult and instinctively do everything right. As part of an advertising campaign , Maja Maike Nowak was named one of 15 Berlin ambassadors in 2008 to represent the uniqueness of the city. In 2011 she published her first book Die mit dem Hundtanzt , which received mostly positive reviews. For example, the Berliner Morgenpost classified the author as one of the “most unusual dog trainers in Germany”. Vanya and the wild dogs followed just a year later , showing autobiographical elements. Maike Maja Nowak describes her experiences with a pack in Lipowka, Russia. In October 2013, the book How much man needs a dog followed and in 2017 perfect, but not perfect. What humans can learn from dogs .

In a broadcast on SRF, Maja Nowak reports that she has been working as a psychological alternative practitioner since 2017. In an event announcement at the beginning of 2018, it is said that she has been working "as a healer with thousands of people" since 2002.

Documentation

In 1994 the MDR broadcast a contribution under the title maike nowak or russia's tears flow more easily about the songwriter Maike Nowak. In 1998 the film Rasluka - Abschied von Bernd Reufels, a 42-minute documentary, was shot in Moscow, Lipowka and Leipzig. It has been shown at festivals in Leipzig and Munich. In May 2013, ZDFinfo broadcast a documentary about Maike Maja Nowak under the title Die Hundeflüsterin , and from June 2013 the main channel ZDF broadcast another five-part production.

Controversy

In the course of the 2013 film reports, the accusation was raised that Maja Nowak's handling of dogs could lead to dangerous situations between humans and dogs. Various professional associations for dog trainers asked ZDF to stop the program. Nowak approaches dogs too briskly, which could make them feel threatened. It is taught that children should also be dominant towards dogs. Incidents of biting could therefore not be ruled out. ZDF defended the documentation and stated that the allegations could not be understood and that there was no reason to doubt Maike Maja Nowak's way of working.

Despite the criticism, the station broadcast new episodes of the documentary series from January 2014. In it, she propagates the pseudoscientific doctrine of inherited pack positions in the individual episodes .
