Makamba is the southernmost province of Burundi . Their capital is also called Makamba . The province borders on Tanzania to the east and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Lake Tanganyika to the west .
The population density in 1990 was 100 to 150 inhabitants per km². Makamba has an area of 1,959.60 km² and a 2007 population of 549,000.
The agriculture and forestry consists of cultivation areas and animal husbandry and in the east of grass savannah with forest islands. In the western shore area on Lake Tanganyika there is also fishing and cultivation of cotton and oil palms. In the north of Makambas there are also smaller coffee-growing areas, in the south bananas and vegetables are grown.
Makamba is divided into the six districts of Kayogoro , Kibago , Mabanda , Makamba, Nyanza-Lac and Vugizo .
