Malayappan Chinnappa SDB (born July 23, 1937 in Ayandur-Mugaiyur ) is retired Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore .

Life

Malayappan Chinnappa joined the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco and was ordained a priest on December 16, 1972 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Krishnagar on November 17, 1993 . He was ordained episcopate on January 25, 1994 by the Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches , Duraisamy Simon Cardinal Lourdusamy ; Co- consecrators were Marianus Arokiasamy , Archbishop of Madurai , and Michael Augustine , Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore .

On April 1, 2005 he was appointed Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore. On November 21, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
