Malik Beyleroğlu

Malik Beyleroğlu (born January 21, 1970 in the Azerbaijani SSR ) is a former Turkish amateur boxer . His greatest achievement was winning the middleweight silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics .

Career

At the 7th World Cup in 1993 in Tampere , Finland , he started in the light middleweight division. He defeated Eduards Narbuts from Latvia (8: 3), but then lost to the Cuban Alfredo Duvergel on points. In June of the same year he won the silver medal in the light middleweight division at the 12th Mediterranean Games in Narbonne . He was only defeated in the final to the Bosnian Almedin Fetahović on points.

At the 30th European Championship in 1993 in Bursa , he won against Pavel Polakovič from the Czech Republic (17: 9), but then lost to Sergei Marchuk by disqualification . In August 1994 he lost at the 3rd Goodwill Games in Saint Petersburg against the Dutchman of Turkish origin Orhan Delibaş (1: 7).

At the 8th World Cup in 1995 in Berlin, he lost again to the Cuban Alfredo Duvergel on points. He then switched to middleweight division.

There he defeated the Greek Mihalis Aslanidis (14: 3) at the 31st European Championship in Vejle in April 1996 , before losing to Akaki Kakauridze from Georgia (2: 5).

His greatest success was the one at the 26th Summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996 , where he reached the final by winning points against Zsolt Erdei from Hungary, Tomasz Borowski from Poland and Mohamed Bahari from Algeria. There he had to admit defeat to Cuban Ariel Hernández on points and thus reached second place. He was the first Turkish boxer in Olympic history to make it into a final.

At the 26th Golden Belt Tournament in May 1997 in Constanța he won gold in the middleweight division. He outclassed the reigning English champion Ian Cooper with a 15-0 point win in an impressive fight. He also defeated the Russian Dmitri Strelchinin (7: 4) and the Romanian Iulian Ioniţă (9: 3).

The 13th Mediterranean Games in Bari in June 1997 , he finished with the bronze medal in the middleweight division, after he was defeated in the semifinals by the Italian Raffaele Bergamasco. In September of the same year, he met the future professional European champion Brian Magee at the Muhammad Ali Cup in Louisville (Kentucky) and was defeated by this just on points (7: 9).

In 1999 he boxed in the light heavyweight division at the Black Sea Cup in Sevastopol and at the 21st Tammer tournament in Tampere , without reaching the medal ranks. At the 28th Chemistry Cup in March 2000 in Halle , he lost just on points against the German Mathias Kempe.

He received a Ph.D. -Doctoral Degree and Teaches Sports at Sakarya University .
