Manfred Schneider (Germanist)

Manfred Schneider (born February 19, 1944 in Gleiwitz ) is a German literary and media scholar .

Life

Schneider studied German , Romance languages , musicology and philosophy in Freiburg i. Br. He received his doctorate in 1971 with a thesis on Christian Dietrich Grabbe . After his habilitation in 1979 he became professor for modern German literature at the University of Essen . In 1999 he moved to the Ruhr University in Bochum , where he held a chair for modern German studies, aesthetics and literary media until 2012 .

His research focuses on modern literature and aesthetics , media theory , literature and law, and the history of interviews in confession , interrogation and psychoanalysis . He dedicated a number of works to the disruptors of modern society (madmen, revolutionaries, barbarians, assassins).

In addition to his research and teaching activities, Schneider repeatedly expresses himself as a critic, commentator or essayist on the radio and in the political feature sections of various daily newspapers ( Frankfurter Rundschau and Neue Zürcher Zeitung ).
