Manfred W. Juergens

Manfred W. Juergens (born November 19, 1956 in Grevesmühlen ) is a German painter , a representative of New Realism .

Life

Jürgens spent his childhood and youth in Mecklenburg . After attending the polytechnic high school , he was an apprentice able seaman at the Deutsche Seereederei Rostock from 1973 to 1975 and thus had the opportunity to travel to Sweden , the Netherlands and Cuba . This was followed by an apprenticeship and apprenticeship as a painter and glazier in Mecklenburg from 1976 to 1986 .

From 1986 to 1989, Jürgens studied communication design at the Berlin School of Advertising and Design, specializing in science graphics and photography . His photography lecturer Manfred Paul had a particular influence on his formal language. After completing his studies, he worked as a communication designer for Heinrich Dathe at Tierpark Berlin from 1989 to 1990 and in cultural management in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from 1990 to 1993. Jürgens has been working as a freelance painter and photographer since 1993.

Since 1997, Jürgens has made long trips to England , Ireland , Switzerland , Italy , Sri Lanka , Taiwan and the People's Republic of China, among others . Jürgens presented his painting for the first time in 2001 in the Städtische Baumhaus gallery in Wismar . Since then, exhibitions have followed in Kühlungsborn , Güstrow , Hamburg , Leipzig , Gstaad and Venice .

In 2007, Jürgens developed the concept of the “one-picture exhibition”. The first of its kind took place with the portrait of the cow Soraya on Alp Wispile near Gstaad and was visited by several hundred interested people from twelve countries within two days. The first Hamburg one-picture exhibition with the portrait of the innkeeper Erna Thomsen took place in the rooms of her restaurant, the cult pub Zum Silbersack , in August 2010 in St. Pauli . The Zeit editor and author Ulrich Schnabel writes in his book Muße about this exhibition that it is quite possible that the trend-resistant painter Manfred W. Jürgens with the one-picture exhibition, in which, in addition to the one panel painting, the model as well as the painter is present, setting a trend.

Jürgens has lived and worked in Hamburg since 2007 and in Bremen since 2013 .
