Location of Wiesbach in Saarland

Wiesbach is a part of the municipality of Eppelborn in the district of Neunkirchen ( Saarland ). Until the end of 1973 Wiesbach was an independent municipality.

history

Wiesbach was first mentioned in a document in 1201. The oldest spelling of the place name is "Wysenbach" when it is first mentioned. In the course of time the place name has seen some changes: 1218 Wissenbach; 1231 Wysenpack; 1276 Wysempahach; 1330 Wesembach and Wieszbach; 1343 Wysenebach; 1602 Wißbach; 1620 Wiehsbach; 1694 Wisbach; 1736 Wießbach and finally from 1789 Wiesbach.

Historical research explains the word components with the fact that the place Wiesbach got its name from the first stream that flowed through the meadows. The Wiesbach rises in the Hahnwald and flows into the Ill in Eppelborn .

The Valentinus Chapel was built in 1796 .

As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Wiesbach was assigned to the new municipality of Eppelborn on January 1, 1974, together with seven other municipalities .

On July 8, 2002, a stage of the Tour de France led through the district of Mangelhausen and thus also through Wiesbach.

Economy and Infrastructure

Local businesses

The Siebert company, an international company in the field of "innovative display and information systems for automation and industrial communication" is based in the "Escher industrial estate" opened in the 1980s.

The Uchtelfangen substation is partly located on the Wiesbacher Bann .

Commercial area A1-Intercommunal

The Echer industrial area is currently being expanded under the project name industrial area A1 Intercommunal . The newly developed commercial areas are located both in the Wiesbach district of the Eppelborn community and the Uchtelfangen district of the Illingen community . In the meantime (mid-2007) some companies from the Illingen community and Eppelborn community have settled there. What is interesting is that the land was built on by respective companies in the original district of the communities from which they come. The development is generally relatively slow.

Educational institutions

There is a primary school in Wiesbach that also offers voluntary all-day care.

Cultural and club life

St. Augustine Church

The parish church of St. Augustine was built in 1963 according to the plans of the architects Dietz & Grothe in the brutalist style. The colorful concrete glass windows created by the artist Boris Kleint are worth seeing.

Culture days

A village festival has been held in Wiesbach since 1981 under the name of Kulturtage . In contrast to other village festivals, it is significant that, mostly in the form of cultural presentations by individual local associations, special attention is paid to the preservation of culture and customs. The village festival takes place annually on the last weekend in June. Since 2003, the village festival has been supplemented by an open-air concert on Fridays.

Hobby and crib exhibition

In 1984 the Wiesbach Hobby Exhibition was brought into being by the married couple Theresia and Fintan Theis in the Wiesbach district of Eppelborn, and four years later a nativity scene exhibition was added. Organized by Wiesbach mayor Richard Kleer, the exhibition has since taken place in uninterrupted sequence on the weekend before the Sunday of the Dead in November of each year. It is one of the largest of its kind in the region and attracts several thousand visitors to the Wiesbachhalle over three days.

FC Hertha Wiesbach

The football club Hertha Wiesbach eV , founded in 1908 as SSK Hertha Mangelhausen eV , rose in 2013 after winning the championship early with its first team in the football league Rhineland-Palatinate / Saar .
