Man with Honor - You Only Respect What You Fear is an American mafia film from 1990. It is based on the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare , but relocates the plot to modern times and the milieu of the American La Cosa Nostra .
action
The simple henchman Mike Battaglia proves himself in action against the arch enemies of the mafia boss Charlie D'Amico. As a man of honor he is now under the personal protection of the head and is even accepted into the clan as the Caporegime - leader of a crew of Soldati . The occurred prophecy of a fortune teller and his ambitious wife eventually lead to the fact that Battaglia even wants to forcibly remove his boss to take its place.
With the active help of his wife, D'Amcio is secretly murdered after a party in the Battaglia house. A chain of action is now triggered that can be rated as a self-fulfilling prophecy . Battaglia, apparently increasingly torn by the dishonorable act, has now completely succumbed to the prophecy that foretold that no man born of a woman could kill him. But since the son of Bankie Como was named in the prophecy as the future head, Battaglia tries to prevent this by his murder, which triggers thoughts of revenge in his son, which lead to the downfall of Battaglia. In the loss-making showdown , he then becomes the victim of a man who was taken from his mother's dying body by caesarean section .
The final scene now shows the final fulfillment of the prophecy, Philly Como is now named a “man of honor”, like Battaglia once did, although his murdered father always wanted to keep him from a career as a criminal. So Battaglia ultimately fulfilled his own destiny through his actions.
