Manuel Esperón
Manuel Esperón González (born August 3, 1911 in Mexico City , † February 13, 2011 in Cuernavaca ) was a Mexican film composer.
Esperón was the son of the mining engineer Manuel Esperón Alcalá , who in turn was a grandson of the composer Macedonio Alcalá , and the concert pianist Raquel González Cantú , and he was the cousin of the composer Ignacio Fernández Esperón ( Tata Nacho ). As a child he received music lessons from his mother and was a student of Alfredo Carrasco from the age of fourteen . He began studying engineering at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional , which he broke off after three months, studied painting and sculpture at the Academia de San Carlos and finally attended the Escuela Popular de Música .
His career as a film music composer began in 1933 with the film La mujer del Puerto , for which he composed the title song based on a text by Ricardo López Méndez as well as part of the background music. In the following years he composed more than 500 film musicians and 950 songs. Walt Disney engaged him in 1944 for the film Drei Caballeros , for which he wrote the music together with Agustin Lara , Ary Barroso and Ernesto Cortázar . He composed for the stars of the golden age of Mexican film such as Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete (including Amorcito Corazón , Mi Cariñito , A la Orilla del Mar ), for María Félix , Elsa Aguirre , María Elena Marquez , Silvia Pinal , María Antonieta Pons , Libertad Lamarque , Irma Dorantes , Lola Beltrán , Ernestina Garfias , Antonio Aguilar , Luis Aguilar , Javier Solís , Manuel Capetillo , Demetrio González , Cantinflas , Tin Tán , Joaquín Pardavé , Alberto Vázquez and many others.
He set poems by Ricardo López Méndez , Pedro de Urdimalas , Felipe Bermejo , Zacarías Gómez Urquiza and especially Ernesto Cortazar , songs wrote symphonic arrangements of Mexican composers such as Guty Cardenas , Ricardo Palmerin , Pepe Guízar , José Alfredo Jiménez , Alfredo Carrasco and Agustín Lara , composed the Rhapsody Mexico in 1910 and arranged Valses Clásicos del México Romántico for symphony orchestra, mixed choir and coloratura soprano. He has received many awards, including the Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes .
