Manuel Sobreviñas

Manuel Cruz Sobreviñas (born April 7, 1924 in Dinalupihan , † July 18, 2020 in San Juan ) was a Filipino clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Imus .

Life

Manuel Cruz Sobreviñas attended the Seminario Menor de San Carlos in Mandaluyong City (1931-1938) and studied philosophy (1943-1947) and theology (1947-1951) at the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary , an offshoot of the Pontifical and Royal University of the Holy Thomas Aquinas in Manila . He was ordained a priest on March 10, 1951 at Villa San Miguel, Mandaluyong City, Manila . He was chaplain in Meycauayan (1951-1952) and San Ildefonso (1952-1957) and pastor in Plaridel (1957-1959) and Marikina (1959-1960). In 1960 he was chaplain of the Young Christian Workers and from 1961 to 1962 of the Veteran Memorial Hospital . He was pastor in San Mateo (1962–1975) and in Mandaluyong (1975–1979).

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Manila and titular bishop of Tulana on April 7, 1979 . The Archbishop of Manila, Jaime Cardinal Sin Lachica , donated to him on 25 May of the same year in the Manila Cathedral , the episcopal ordination ; Co - consecrators were Amado Paulino y Hernandez , auxiliary bishop in Manila, and Protacio Gungon , auxiliary bishop in Manila. In the Archdiocese of Manila from 1979 to 1993 he was responsible for schools (Archdiocesan Parochial Schools Association (MAPSA)) and catechesis. From 1991 to 1993 he was chairman of the Commission for Catechesis and Catholic Education. He was also pastor in Pasig City (1979-1993).

On February 25, 1993 he was appointed Bishop of Imus. On October 22, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. Sobreviñas died at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan in July 2020 .
