San Mateo is a Filipino municipality in the province of Rizal , in the administrative region IV, Calabarzon. It has 252,527 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who lived in 15 barangays . It is classified as a first income class community in the Philippines and as partially urbanized .
San Mateo is located in the north of the Rizal Province, on the border with the metropolitan area of Metro Manila . The topography of the municipality is characterized by the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range . Their neighboring communities are Quezon City in the west, Marikina City in the southwest, Rodriguez in the north, and Antipolo City in the south and east. Portions of the Marikina Watershed Forest Reserve are in the parish territory.
